Cablevision (NYSE:CVC) Systems Corp. says it is buying the Long Island-based newspaper Newsday from Tribune Co. for $650 million.Cablevision beat out media mogul Rupert Murdoch, CEO of News Corp. (NYSE:NWS) , who withdrew his own $580 million bid on Saturday.

On a slow day for music news, one is forced to head to Billboard and see what’s up. And one is surprised to see that #4 on the Billboard Top Independent Album charts is Garth Brooks’ The Ultimate Hits. A quick wiki tells us that this album peaked at #1 on the Indie album charts.
